Bulgarian History – ХV-ХІХ century

The ,,Bulgarian history – ХV-ХІХ century’’ department was created in 1985 with Penka Dzeleva as its head curator. The basic and auxiliary holding of the department consist of more than 1300 exhibits from the regions of Pernik, Radomir, Breznik and Trun.

The building of churches and monasteries was practiced zealously in the region, continuing through the whole period of Ottoman presence. A lot of villages around the upper flow of Struma had notable craftsmen of the Samokov’s iconographic school, including Zahari Zograph, who painted the icons of ,,St. George’’ temple in Pernik. A lot of them are now part of the collection of icons from the ХVIII – XIX century in The Regional History Museum – Pernik. The collection also has church utensils, liturgical books, and elements of wooden iconostases. The locals’ connections to Sveta Gora are evident from the enthroned carved cross and antiminus we possess. The holding stores guns, pistols, and sables, typical for the ХVIII- XIX century, Turkish paperwork – certificates and postscripts, orders and medals of Pernik’s militiamen that took part in the Russo-Turkish War of Liberation, as well as the sword and pocket watch of prominent in Pernik archimandrite Xinoviy Poppetroff.
