The implementation of the project "Monitoring, documentation and emergency restoration of icons from the RIM-Pernik fund" has been completed

In December 2025, the project “Monitoring, Documentation and Emergency Restoration of Icons from the Fund of the Regional Historical Museum – Pernik”, funded by the Ministry of Culture, was successfully completed.

The project was implemented by a team of Milena Karamfilova, Yana Radulova and Iliyana Doncheva from RIM-Pernik, Natalia Nedelcheva from the National Church History and Archeology Museum and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ivan Vanev from the Institute for the Study of Arts – BAS.

During the implementation of the project, 194 icons, royal doors and parts of iconostases were digitized. The icons in a state of emergency were stabilized. The restoration studio was equipped with modern technical means and materials. The work on the project significantly expanded the scientific database for the icon collection of RIM-Pernik.
